Default Help replacing RHD charging cable

Hi,

My new alternator is putting out at least 14 V but the new battery is only getting 12.9V.

I figured its the charging cable, but since my car is Right hand drive, I am having an extremely difficult time chasing down the cable, and the fusible links.

If we cant find the orignal wiring, would it be possible to just run a new wire to the battery from the alternator?

I also cannot find the jump start junction block.

Cheers!

Always include the year of your C4, all C4's are not exactly alike.
The jump start bolt is behind the battery and has 8 wires on it. You could connect a new wire from the alternator output to the jump start bolt, but make sure that it is either fused, or has a fusible link in it. The fusible link is much less expensive than a 120 amp fuse. If you follow the output wire on the alternator you will find a fusible link in the wire and near the jump start bolt. Most likely the fusible link has been damaged and now has some voltage drop across it causing low charging voltage on the battery terminals. Also check the condition of the wire on the alternator output terminal and the condition of the wire on the jump start bolt.

Yea, totally forgot, thanks for the reminder.

its a 91 vert.

The problem is, since the car was converted to right hand side, the battery has been moved across as well, and the jump start block is impossible to find.

Is the jump start block attached to anything, or is it just a bunch of wires wrapped together? Would you have a picture of this?

Its going to be hard to find a fusible link here in Hong Kong, they are suggesting putting a fuse on the alternator. I upgraded to the powermaster 145amp, what would a safe amp fuse be? 160 amps?

Thanks again!

A 160 amp fuse should be ok. I don't think 91's have a jump start block, but I don't know for sure as I own an 87. I believe the 91's have a fuse box near the battery, but for LHD, the fuse box could have been located anywhere.

Checked the service manual, and it says there is a jump start junction block. Does anyone have a picture of it?

I just received the new charging cable i ordered - 6 gauge from powermaster.

Say I cant find the location of the block, can I just attach the charging cable directly to the battery with the fusible link attached at the end?

Thanks!

You can connect another cable from the alternator output directly to the positive battery post with no problems.

A lot of high powered stereo installs have this done.
