My wife and I just saved a 84 vette from the crusher...We bought it from a junk yard and have started to restore some of it. The motor cranks and fires but won't run as we were told it did.Does anyone have a detailed trouble shooting method? I am an old mechanic but I know very little about fuel injection. We would love to hear from someone who has been thru this. Thankyou.

Check for fuel and spark. Check fuel pressure. Pull a plug and see if you are fetting good spark. Any codes?
with air cleaner off you can see the injectors spraying down onto the throttle plate easily. Does it stop flowing? I will have to check my FSM but it may give fuel for start but if the oil pressure doesn't come up it cuts fuel to "save" the motor. I know later TPI systems have that feature.
If you get initial fuel pressure from the pump.....then it squirts a few times and the pressure bleeds off due to a semi clogged filter or a weak pump or clogged pick up sock.....the available pressure to the injectors drops below the minimum level and they stop squirting........motor dies....
If you are restoring the car.......Go ahead and buy an '85 (Stronger) fuel pump and a new fuel filter....swap it all out and see what you get.....
I guess I should recommend (first) that you hook a fuel pressure gauge and see what it drops to on that initial fire.......
if the oil pressure doesn't come up it cuts fuel to "save" the motor.
I know you are trying to help out one of our Corvette brothers which is a great service. However, you have been mis-informed. Please don't spread this busted myth. Thanks
Wow you guys have some great ideas. I will have to borrow or buy a pressure guage and see how much pressure I have. Thank you all for the help. I will get back with you when I know more... happy 4th of july all!!!
