Default ahh -haa fixed stumble

I've been fighting an intermittent stumble at tip in for months, and I finally tracked it down. The car is on it's 3rd fuel pump in the last year, one by dealer, another by previous owner and one by me. Last time the car ran good I took some baseline figures with my f.p. gague, 38psi w/reg and 45 unplugged. So after my last fillup it started stumbling again(a pattern as of late) so I grabbed my gague, and was at about 34psi, but it was pulsing, and when I unplugged the f.p.r. there was no difference. I pulled the fuel pump back out to find that the little bracket that holds the metal return tube to the feed tube was broken thus allowing the feed tube to back off of the pulsator dampener. Ahh-Haa, the cause of my pressure drop! I used a hose clamp to snug the feed tube and the bracket back together, locking the f.p., dampener and feed tube together. Upon retest I've got 38psi, steady as a rock and 45 psi with the f.p.reg. disconnected. When checking your f.p. make sure the pressure isn't pulsing, it should be steady. I hope this will help others. ---1986---although it looks like '85 to '95 uses a pulsator.

Thanks for sharing your cure. Most times people fix their car after posting here and we never hear from them again.

Up until now the problems would either come back or morph into something else. This is the first difinitive fix I think I've had, the rest are chasing gremlins. I agree, there is much too little followup though, it's frustrating when mining for answers in prior posts.

on my 86, i too eliminated the pulsator, and got rock steady fuel pressure. If you eliminate the pulsator, you need to use "fuel injection " hose. the fuel injection hose will live in the fuel tank environment, and is rated at 75 PSI burst.

You sure about that burst pressure?

Fuel inj hose should meet SAE 30R9
100 PSI working press
900 PSI burst press
