AC Diode... Which way to install?
That end goes to the Black/White wire.
The other end goes to the Dark Green wire that you grounded while you were
testing to enable the clutch.
Here's the schematic. It shows the diode across the AC Clutch coil.
On my 89, not sure if the diode has ever been replaced but the diode is inside
a wiring harness and is not placed across the electrical plug that connects the
AC Clutch coil to the Clutch circuit.

Had:

Getting:

I hooked the Ecklers one up with green to green and black to black/white with the connector at the AC clutch. Apparently that wasn't right.
connect to them from the other half of the connector.
What matters is the diode must be connected properly to the connector with the Dark Green wire and the Black/White wire.
Inside that ivory colored plastic piece from Ecklers is the diode which you can't see.
Remove the original diode from the Ecklers harness and solder a new diode across the wires according to the info. I posted above.
If you had a ohm meter, you could easily verify if the Eckers diode is good or bad.
If you don't have a meter, go to Radio Shack and purchase a diode for .90 cents.
A 1N4004 diode will work as a replacement for the factory diode.
Here's the Radio Shack link.
