Default Engine cuts out after it gets warm

I have been told conflicting info. When my engine gets warm or should I say after about 30 min of driving, when my foot asks the car to perform it wants to studer and cut out. Now I've been told it might be a throttle position sensor, it might be vacuum lines that are brittle, it might be a fuel filter, it might be spark plug wires, and it could be the dreaded optispark. What's your take? I'm sure you guys have run into this before. Oh by the way it is a '92 6spd. If it is the opti do I need to replace the whole thing or will a cap and rotor do the trick? And is there something less expensive than the $800 MSD setup that is aftermarket? Because if the whole thing needs replaced I don't want to have to do it again, and that seems like a very real possibility if I replace it with a new GM unit.

Go with the easiest and cheapest first. Change your fuel filter first and put a pressure guage on your fuel rail....make sure its not your fuel pump. (could be a clogged fuel pump sock) (you are checking for fuel) Check your coil and the module....they tend to fail when real hot. They can be checked at any good auto parts store. Check for sparks....turn engine on in a garage with the lights off at night.....see a light show?

The above should keep you busy....get back to us if it continues.

Thanks! I bought a fuel filter yesterday but haven't put it on yet. Can autozone check the coil and module on the car or do the have to be removed? Does this sound like it could be an opti issue of is it usually worse with opti?

NAPA or AutoZone should be able to check it on the car. I does NOT sound like an Opti issue...you would have a code.

Cool glad to hear that! Wasn't looking forward to changing that or paying for a replacement.

Ive been having the same issue for awhile and yeah, could be anything is all i figure out. Fuel pump went after it started acting up so sending unit, filter, and everything got replaced. Fuel pressure's good. Opti was replaced around 15,000miles before having problems so hopin its not that. Although when the opti was acting up last time, mine did not through a code just to warn ya. Although strangely, if i let it coast for awhile, especially downhill, it seems to engine break... but I have an auto.

Tape a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield or inside the car and observe if it flutters when the engine stumbles. If so, you likely have a fuel pump at the end of its life. Another common cause is the spark module, they put out weak spark when they get old and hot and recover when they cool down.
