I also saw the budget wasn't too extreme. You can do a pretty decent nos system for under $800. You will spend thousands doing headers, cam, heads and exhaust. It will need new heads, probably head bolts, gaskets, cam, possible lifters, pushrods, headers, rework the rest of the exhaust. And it will need to be retuned and possibly need bigger injectors, and a possible fuel pump. And if you are going that far you would need a timing chain and gears and, spark plugs, and also a oil change and oil filter. Anytime a engine is opened up like that , I would also do a oil change. So it's alot more than just a cam and heads and some exhaust work. Plus alot of labor if you can't do it yourself.

The first thing that comes to mind for quick easy power is nitrous.
X2
I prefer nitrous for the "power on demand" - no additional stress on the shortblock unless it's activated, especially with stock engines. As Jim said in another post, you can get a decent setup for under $1000 (providing you can install it yourself).

What year? How many miles? Condition? Last tune up? How's it running now? Any issues?
What would really suck is if you spent your last dollar on a NOS set up and spun a bearing, dropped a valve, blew a head gasket on your first romp.
Me, I don't trust nitrous, especially on a stock motor. But that's just me and i don't want to start a nitrous thread. If your looking for something relatively inexpensive that will give you something you can feel, try rear end gears. Depending on what you have going to a 3:54, 3:73, or even a 4:10, will help to throw you back in the seat without blowing up the motor in the process.
I've never been a huge fan of NOS, the car is a 95 with 58k miles, I picked it up from the dealer two weeks ago
Then you need to drive it 6 months at a minimum and replace the things that will come up, in the meantime you can decide what you really want to change.
Let me get this straight... you started asking for cheap easy power and now all of a sudden you are talking about a $$$$$$$$$$$ LS complete engine swap?
...and no. The cost of heads/cam isn't even remotely close to putting in an LSX.

If you have an LT1 check out http://elliottsportworks.com/ I just got the LE2 head porting / largest emissions cam / intake manifold porting done for my car and couldn't be happier
I am also a college student and was able to afford the budget

This is the best advice you've received so far. Put 5000 miles on your car and see what it needs (and learn how to handle the power it already has) before you go spending money on more power.
