Default Code 36 why me?

I never got a check engine light. However, when I did the paper clip method it showed code 36. I noticed my car has been running slightly rough. It's a 93 LT1 Btw. And It recently started to give off a slight ping at lower RPM's under load. Could this be the dreaded OPTI issue? I hate my life.

Yep, that is an opti code. First off, pull the opti wire harness and check for corrosion.

I checked and no corrosion around the harness. Why do I have code 36 but never once got a check engine light?

Dude Id much rather have an Opti isssueright now than what Im doing. A tear down of the motor to fix a head gasket. I wish that was my only problem although I dont have an opti so that wont ever be a problem. Best of luck

So I decided to start my car at night and see what was happening underneath the hood. As my curiosity got the best of me, I noticed my plug wires were putting on a nice fireworks display for me. So I am gonna try plug wires first and see if my problems go away.

Sounds like you'll wind up doing new plugs, wires, AND a new Opti...possibly a water pump install, too. I would considering all the labor tear-down time involved.

But at least it'll run like new money again once you get everything new in place and buttoned down.

Nope just wires. I already replaced the plugs last month.
