Default '89 coupe intake manifold

What is the proper bolt tightening sequence to install the intake manifold?

12.....11..................4........1... ....................5......6

Rear ........................................ ............................Front

10.....9..................3.........2... ...................7........8

I didn't have a picture so this diagram will have to do.I usually go around the sequence 3 times, start at 15 ft lbs, then 25 ft lbs , then end with 35 ft lbs....WW

I have the same Haynes manual as you and your right, it does show a different sequence then the one in the GM book. I also have a paid repair site that I use and it shows the same sequence as the FSM, so that is the one I use..I have found many mistakes in the Haynes book and don't rely on it for torque specs or sequence specs..Believe it or not the GM FSM also has some mistakes we have found.. My 89 FSM says when doing the intake manifold to put the gaskets on with the water restrictors in the front, everyone knows they go in the back....WW

I use the same sequence that WW7 posted, but I criss cross the 4 center bolts.

I think that bolting the manifold down in steps has more to do with proper sealing then the sequence you use..As long as you start at the center and work outward I really don't think it would cause any problems..Of course, this is just my opinion and I do use the sequence above when bolting mine down....WW
