Default Retorquing head......question

I am putting the drivers side aluminum head back on my '86 Saturday. Is there anything special I need to put on the head bolts besides a little anti-sieze? What ever was on the head bolts from GM felt like dried rubbery silicon...........thanks

There should be a sealer on the threads and lube used on the underside of the head bolts, if a lube isn't used the final torque number may not be reached. .Also be sure to chase the threads before installing the heads.WW

Below is a quote from the 383 build that Pete K did for me, he explains how to prep the head and bolts for assemble..WW

Quote: Now that we are sure that all is well in the valvetrain, The heads and deck surfaces get a final wipe, and blown off with air. Gasket is set on the locating pins

Head is placed, and torqued in 3 steps to the final factory torque spec.
My preferred sealant on the bolt threads is Permatex liquid teflon.
I also use a thin smear of ARP bolt lube to reduce friction where the back side of the bolt's head contacts the head boss.
.

DO this and your heads will be perfectly torqued. FYI, check your old bolts for excessive stretch. If you use different bolts like ERP then follow their instructions for torque settings. Always use the FSM for the bolt sequence!
