The tint is easy enough to peel off. The glue is another matter. I've tried all sorts of adhesive removers and none worked very well. You can scrape mos of the adhesive off with a razor blade, then resort to adhesive remover and lots of elbow grease.
It is very easy to scrape the defroster strips off the back window. I tried to be careful and still ruined two of the traces.
I removed my window, turned it upside down and used paint remover. Worked like a charm. Didn't hurt the defrosters because thay are cooked into the glass. I was going to paint the little flap on top of the window anyway, you would need to be careful and protect it. You can also try tintdude.com
I de-tinted mine. Just peel off the tint and use Castrol Super Clean (at WalMart) and the glue ***** up and comes off. I used about 3 rolls of paper towels. No blades or wool for me.
Lacquer thinner works to remove the glue. You don't want to get it on plastic as it could soften it and you should try and keep off the rubber as well ... and wear gloves cause it has a tendency to dry your hands out. That it how I got the glue off of my back window and it didn't touch the defroster strips.
From what Ive been told from my buddies who own a tint shop, you should always heat up your windows first before you take off tint. So either do it on a hot day or bust out a heater, it will make the job easier. And watch out for the defoster lines, try not to work over them. Your tint looks like it is an aftermarket kit, so i dont think you would have any problem with glue. I didnt know people used glue to put on tint?????
By the way, good luck finding a hot day in the sun in Seattle :)
A bunch of good input -- thanks to all. Now I have some other tricks up my sleeve if something doesn't work.
MOZOT, on the adhesive - I think it's just provided with the tint. ??? Hey, and it's almost sunny today! :jester
Anyway, the tint looks nice, and most would like to see me keep it on. I'm just not a tint guy. I think clear windows make a car look a lot more clean and light.
Believe it or not I peeled the old tint off fairly easily and then sprayed the glue down with 409 and it just wiped right off. I was really amazed it was so easy!!!!
