Can't seem to get gas gauge to work it always reads empty. We even tried another sending unit out of a working car still no help. Even tried changing instrument cluster from working car still no help. Any ideas what to look for would be appreciated.

I will do some more checking this evening but I would have thought if the sending unit was bad it would have fixed it swapping it out from the other car because the guage works properly on the other car.

When you swapped it back does it still work in the other car?
If so then you have a wiring issue between the tank and the gage.
Time to brake out the wiring diagram and the DVOM
The instrument cluster and sending unit both worked when we put them back in the other car. Shouldn't there be some voltage on the sending unit wire going back to the cluster?
The other car is an 89 but we noticed that on the 89 with the sending unit unplugged the gauge would peg and stay there with the key on and on the 94 it would stay empty. It seems like the wire is shorted somewhere.
