Default 1989 with ac issues

Hey - I have an 89 and now that the temp is in the 90's everyday my AC decided to die. Upon further investigation, my compressor clutch isn't kicking on. I detached the clip connecting the compressor wires and checked for voltage being supplied to the compressor when the AC is turned on, which there was. My question would be whether or not this could potentially be due to the low pressure switch? if it could be related to a low charge how would i go about determining whether or not that is the problem? Thanks!!

If your system is low on Freon, which will generate a low pressure situation, your AC compressor will not kick in. Find a good local AC shop that you can trust and have them pull a vaccum on the system. This will let you know if you have any leaks. It just might be low on Freon which will slowly leak out over time. A can or two of Freon will not cost too much.

However, if you have leaks or a faulty compressor, you will be looking at hundreds of dollars to rebuild the system and convert it to R134A Freon.
