Would it be worth getting a dyno tune on a stock LT1. I live near one of the best shops around and am wondering if they can get some more hp out of this thing...I've had it for 5 years and haven't touched the motor tune up wise..what could I expect from this compared to what I could do myself.
Are you asking them to tune your car? ie.....plugs, wires and set idle and anything else. That would be classified as a normal tune up to replace parts that loose their performance over time.
If you are just going to have a dyno tune and they burn a new chip, you will not gain much. They can fine tune the car, but do not expect to get 10-50 additional HP. They will reset the chip settings to get the most from the engine over a broad RPM range. You might get an additional 5-10 HP and see an increase in MPG if they do everything correctly.
If you are going for the dyno tune...do the standard tune up parts yourself to gave good quality NEW parts for them to work with. Owing the car for five years without a standard tune up is a long time to wait to do a tune up. Perhaps you don't drive it much. You could get an additional 5-7 HP by just tuning it up.
The dyno tune will be able to tell if you're car is running lean or rich and adjustments can be made to get back to stock form or better. I think you should be able to pick up between 10 and 15 hp above stock form. Its always good to have a baseline idea of where you're car is at.
Thats what I'm looking for. I don't drive it much, well lately i have been which has given me renewed interest in it. On a run today i was talking with a fellow c4 owner about possible improvements without getting too far into it. I was wondering about the way the factory set it up as opposed to a better state of tune as factory setups are usualy a compromise. Plus chasing around modded c5's is...difficult.
