I really don't think I have a problem but, thought I would ask. When I am sitting in traffic my vette has gotten up to 234 degrees, usually I hit my exit around 230-232 and it cools down. It has been warm lately (75-85 degrees) I know this is playing a part in it. The gauge always say cool though so I am not too worried just wondering if other people cars get this hot.
Stopped or at low speeds like 15 mph, no or too little air moves through the radiator and the coolant temp rises. Your main fan comes on at 228 F and goes off at 210 F. The auxialliary fan comes on at 238 F. Your temps seem a bit high but not harmful. GM says to shut the engine off at 260 F and let it cool down. I doubt you will ever see 260.
I am sure GM says this because 50% antifreeze at 15 psi boils at 265 F. Boiling coolant is a poor conductor of heat and you can do damage to the heads. I suspect you have debris in your radiator that needs to be cleaned out. C4's are bottom feeders and road debris clogs the radiator and reduces the cooling capacity.
75-85 is where most of would like to see daytime temps!
JFB is right. I was suprised when I found how much debris was stuck on the front of my radiator. A good cleaning made a noticeable difference in running temps.
I am thinking this will do it my radiator was about 10-15% blocked. Should be good to go now. BTW if anyone wants a Papa John's coupon for a $7.99 large pepperoni let me know.
forget the coupon and pipe some of that cool air to the southeast.
we had 100+ degrees yesterday while i was outside putting on my catback system. gotta luv it
Ya it was about 85 here over the weekend while I was washing my car and there is nowhere in my driveway where I can out of direct sun light. Yay, water spots.
It wouldn't be so bad if the state of Washington believed in A/C. It is 84 in my house right now.
