Default PCMforless Question

How can PCMforless do a tune with not having access to the Vehicle?

How accurate can they be?

Thanx

Both of my Vettes are PCMforless tuned.

To include my modded LT4. I'm not an expert on tuning but, even some C5 and C6 owners do the mail tuning.

I dynoed tune my 95 two years ago and the AFR was right on

I had that question once about PCMFL but, the fact is that both of my Vettes run great whith their tune.

Alvin has tuned thousands of cars over the years, some of them on a dyno. They have huge database and know what works and what doesn't. They are usually very good with their tunes.

The wizard of LT1 tuning is Moe Bailey in San Antonio, TX. He goes by MoeHorsepower. Alot of the fast F body LT1 guys use him. Lloyd Elliott recommended him with my 396 upgrade.

Did a mail order tune with Moe and dyno'd the car at a local dyno. Sent Moe the dyno sheets with the A/F. Mailed him the computer back and he tweaked it some more at no charge. The car ran great after the first mail order. Picked up another 5HP/TQ after the 2nd mail order.

Still plan on a dyno tune with Moe to pick up a few more HP up top but really not necessary.

I used them when I installed LT headers/cat delete. They emailed me the tunes and I uploaded them with my laptop. It took a few tunes, but they were very helpful with sending re-tunes until it was right. I recommend them for mail-order tunes.

After my last set of mods I used a "mail order" tune from PCMforLess and then later had a dyno tune by PCMforLess.....the "mail order" tune was basically right on, they did some minor tweaking on dyno day in the mid rpm range..

Bottom line they got VERY close to an optimum tune for me, dyno tuning really wasn't needed....

If you fill out their information sheet with good information, they should be very accurate...

Bryan (PCM for less) has done many dyno days all over the country. He has tuned just about every combination of engine components possible. He keeps these records and when you fill out a questionairre he refers to a similar setup as yours that was tuned and proven on a dyno day. He's really good.

I also wondered how they know/knew what to adjust without them having the car.I don't think anyone answered this ? yet.Do you hook up something to the diagonstic port & then send them that after driving around & from that they see the fuel tables or something else. How do they know how your car is running(rich or lean) & adjusting the tune accordingly?Do you tell them your mods you have done to your car before the tune?I think it has something to do with datalogging but am not sure how it works. Can someone explain what they did thoughout the whole process when their car was tuned?

Stop by their website, log onto the Ordering Sheet page and take a look at the questions being asked. That'll give you a good idea of what mods, etc., have (or have not) been done that are important to tuning. One can't help but conclude that, based on the questions being asked, those are the areas important for him to have a response.

My view is that two of most important things for either Alvin or Bryan to know are cam specs and head flow numbers.

Jake

Is that all they ask?

As mentioned before, you should at least dyno the car and send the dyno sheets with AFR after first mail order tune. Took my car to the track after the first and 2nd mail order tune and knew right away the car picked up some HP.

1. You record the data stream from the ECM with a recording program like DataMaster.
2. You send the datalog to PCMforLess
3. Alvin or another tech runs the datlog and makes changes to your tune.
4. PCM emails the tune back.
5. You load the new tune into your ECM.
6. You record another datastream and email it back.
7. This goes on until your happy with the performance and Alvin says Thats a wrap!

My runs consisted of a 55 & 65 MPH typical driving & a 0-100 run.

I used Datamaster. My first tune caused the car to backfire at WOT so I datalogged a few runs and they corrected off of my data. You do this via your own laptop with appropriate USB cable.
