I have a 1990 Coupe and have a indicator light that shows a code for the left side air bag sensor. I have read that it may just need to have to base cleaned and the frame to help the ground. My problem is trying to locate the sensor. Any help as far as what it looks like and what kind of wires I am looking for would be appreciated.
There are two sensors on either side of the frame. You can try and clean the frame for a ground, but it might not work. I sanded both sensors and my frame but the light was still on. I had to replace my DERM.
Dissconnect the Battery first before doing any work on the Sensors and wait about ten min. After you remove the Sensor clean the Frame Rail where it Sits and also the Sensor with either Sandpaper or a Dremel Tool then Apply a coat of Dielectric Grease to the Bottom of the Sensor and Frame Rail. I also put a Small Star Washer on the Bolts when I Re Installed it to help make a better Ground. Then go through the Grounding Procedure to knock the light off. Mid America Sells a Little Button and Connector to Clear the Code it's 20 Bucks. Most times it's the Sensor that's bad. Peel back the Carpet in the Footwell area and down where your Toes would rest you will see the Connector coming through the Firewall it's Yellow in Color and just pulls apart. You might have to OHM the Sensor to see if it's bad. OHM the lead coming from the Sensor not the one going to the DERM. Pipe
