Not one of them broke. Guess I got lucky for once.

Just dampen the cloth and run it through the slot on the sensor. Make sure there's no moisture in the housing either.

Electronic components (optical sensor) usually just quit and they don't like to be intermittant. I'm betting on some dirt, moisture (turnin to steam possibly when hot) or some rusty places on your slotted wheel. Since yours is just a fancy paperweight right now you have nothing to lose.
The car is 30 miles away at my son's house. He has more tools and knowledge that I do. I do plan on taking it apart once it is off.

I have read about people putting Loctite on the rotor screws in the Opti. Is that necessary on the AC Delco units or is it just a MSD issue?

Is yours an MSD unit or AC-Delco/Delphi unit?

Also, I've heard GM does not manufacture Optis anymore and that they're all made offshore. Is this true or just Ebay huckster hype?

I bought the AC Delco unit. I have no idea where it is made.

Finally the car is fixed. Put in the new Opti and water pump. So far it runs perfect. No surprises. It wasn't a bad job at all. Had the car back together and running in less that 5 hours. That included a trip to the parts store for a new serpentine belt.

I want to thank everybody here for all of the help. I couldn't have done it without all of the advice and pointers that you guys gave me.
