I removed my tint rather easily. It didn't leave any residue and came off clean.
I would suggest a professional do any reapplication of tint after the old stuff comes off. You have to be very careful with these tops as they are not actually glass, but lexan or poly something. I had my old top tinted by a shop and he pre cut the tint from the outside and left razor marks in my top.
The tint makes a big difference as far as heat and light blockage. The factory tint is very light, although with the AC on it doesn't get too hot. It does let much more light into the cabin however.
My opinion is that if a professional tint shop will tint it without the wrinkles or debris in it, let them do it. If you don't have a pro do it, I would just leave it alone. It's not easy to heat shrink that film around the contoures of the top. And you have to be careful pre cutting it on the outside because if you go too deep you will cut the top from the outside. Also the intallation on the inside of the top is not easy unless you have done many many many before.
I have some pics on one of my posts showing the top with tint and without.
Where can I find new tint for the glass top? The tint that is on it now is wrinkled...
The top isn't glass, if tint was added it was a pep boys, job professionals wont touch it. They use heat guns with professional film and you can't do that with the plastic used for the top. If you strip it, mid america sells a liner that still lets you see out, but massively reduces heat and UV. Its about $30.
