Well, I have my 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom up for sale @ my local Craigslist. Today, I get an email from a guy wanting to trade his Black with tan/black leather interior 1990 C4 L98 with removable top with about 50K original miles. He says he wants $2k above my bike. Now, im not too familiar with C4's.
I need some advice from you C4 owners, should I take the trade and give him the $2k? Also, whats available for performance upgrades for the L98?
I need to be "schooled" on the C4. Links to performance parts or suggestions on appearance upgrades would be greatly appreciated. And pics of your C4 "modded" would be nice.
price on my bike is set @ $6000 has 5000 miles and cobra pipes, tuner, grips and mirrors. The C4 he has has the interior redone but needs paint. Has k&n CAI, magnaflow exhaust, and some foil thing not sure what it is. He says hes done some updates/upgrades. But off the top of my head I dont remember what he mentioned. Im on my phone right now.
Even up, unless the vett is in great shape. Interior and paint are big $, and what kind of maintenence history does he have on it? I paid 6k for mine, it had a few more miles but paint and interior were almost perfect.
its an automatic.... here are the pics he sent me. Im set to go check it out thursday.
and here is what he replied when I asked what aftermarket or maintanance had been done to it.
"Yes well ive been fixing it up since i bought it. Front to back so far i have put, big mouth air damn, K&N filter, i have a air foil for it, i have a newer radiator for it, i put in a flip up screen, tint, two tone seats and sunvisors, rims and tires(tires are practically new), caliper red paint, magna flow exhaust( y pipe and mufflors) and a shift kit(car is auto though). New gas tank that is plastic on the inside of metal. Also just put in a high flow fuel pump. And regular radiator and oil changes of course. Most of the things i fixed werent in need i just was going through the car to restore it to as new as possible. Thats everything i can think of right now."

Check weatherstripping as it is expensive. Check that all the electrical items work as they should.
Dang - I like the bike. You should keep it!
Good luck!
Ok the only thing I really like about that car with this deal is the 50k and you have to get that verified carfax etc. The paint isnt a big deal because that can be done. plenty of guys will do that job for a quick 1k and thats clear base. I also like that it has a shift kit the question is how well is shifts. Ask him if its a transgo or other and if it has full manual in it with that you can down shift or upshift at any rpm
Ok with that aside Id never give him 6k for that car. Take a look on ebay what you can get for 6k clean needing no paint etc. The miles are his strong point but that has to be verified. Make sure you take it for a nice ride with him, check every control heat a.c etc. Look on the backside of the motor both sides and look for oil leaking down the side common intake manifold leak area on these cars
If your still liking it after all is said and done offer him 5k meaning youll give him the bike but he has to give you 1000 so you can paint it. Thats how I play ball here in new york and you cannot believe the deals I have goton. You dont have to buy this car remember that there are plenty all over the place. Take your time, do your research make sure youll be happy with an auto. I wasnt and had to sell mine to get what I wanted and I have it outside my door. The best thing you did was ask the question and consult. im not trying to steer you in any direction I just know that i like to make the right decision the first time and believe me I have made the wrong decision far to many times to forget this all important lesson.
yeah, its a nice bike but Ive been wanting a bigger bike. I put it for sale and this guy came up with an offer for a trade so Im considering it. I initially wanted to trade for a 97 LT1 Camaro or 98-99 LS1 F-body Camaro/Trans AM. I miss my 94 LT1 Camaro

Thanks a lot for the info! yeah, i needed to come in here for advice. I was initially looking for a C5Z or a C6 but maybe till mid next year. But ive seen some really nice modded C4's that catch my eye. And I think this might be a good candidate for that. Im just not sure whats available to upgrade this C4 L98

There are lots of upgrades for that car as deep as your pocket can go...heads cam stroker motor etc
Oh and I have an old saying that I always spout off to myself after a kill ( meaning a very good buy ) I always say to myself or even others. If you bought it for all the money what it is worth you got robbed lol Now that may sound crazy but then again I am a buyer and a seller so I cannot stand paying all the money for anything lol

Oh and remember he wants your bike and is the one who contacted you. Ultimately he tried to set the terms but that can be changed, right lol
oh yeah, his first email was if I would be interested in a trade for his 90 Vette. My bike plus $2k for his vette. I replied that I really wasnt looking for a C4 vette but id be willing to take a look at it. He then replied that the $2k is negotiable... so hmmm,,,,
