Yesterday i turned my car off and he antenna would not go down. the problem is that the motor that moves it was still running and would not stop, yet the antenna wasnt moving. i had to cut the wires in order to not drain my battery. what is more than likely causing this?
The nylon rod that moves the mast up and down, has broken. The limit switch is not switching, so the motor will continue to run. You can unplug the relay, rather than cut the wires, but you did stop the motor.
You can buy a repair kit, it's the nylon rod and finial end of antenna. You have to drill out the housing rivets and open it up, to replace the part, then use machine screws/nuts to close it up.
I think I paid $22 from GM.
