Do you have any pictures of the driver's side that shows the headers, and the alternator?
I need to figure out of the rear brace for the alternator is going to fit or not. If it doesn't I might be screwed. The last time I didn't install that brace (when installing the AIR pump eliminator) the engine torqued the alternator over and cracked the housing. :(

Hey Scorp,
Would Like to know this as well...maybe JD has a pic with his motor in that area since hes got the eliminator as well.
Also, with my Kit,I did use the rear bracket with the stock manifold but the TOP bracket that used to bolt the smog pump to the intake manifold wouldnt reach anymore and I asked the BPP guys if they had a bracket to mount the back f the pulley to the intake for more rigidity but they didnt make one.
So IF anything, maybe you can make your own bracket to support the back of the pulley and bolt to the intake which MIGHT keep the system in alignment better under load if the rear bracket cant be used anymore w/headers...what do you think..doable or no?(even though I know the alternator is further down)
I still might make one for up there anyways. Those two long bars may warp without the additional support over time.
:)

Yeah that part missing is why I think makes the biggest difference. I'll have to look into fabricating a new on. The AIR pump bracket goes "over" the alternator, and supports it from the front/back at the same time in a way. The eliminator only bolts onto the front side of the alternator. I think the original bracket helps keep the alternator from torquing a bit in this matter also.
I've already messed up 2 alternators because of this eliminator, I'd like to try and save the rest. :)
Re: [Headers]: L98 guys with headers..... (scorp508)
I wil get some picture tonight if you would like, I didn't install mine the first time they were put in. I have seen some Dyno's of headers gain ~15rhwp and 20lbs of torque, but you never know if the car had partially clogged precats or not. The Headers made a huge difference in my 86 but my passsenger precat was already rattling.
I just remembered that my Wife has our Digital Camera at work (she work a half day today), so I can't get a picture tonight. My car has an air pump, but the TPIS big mouth intake didn't line up properly with the air pump bracket, so I had to leave it off. I will atleast check it out to see what my car has for brackets.
I just looked at the motor again...hmmm..doesnt look like it will change much by installing a bracket on top as seeing how far down the alternator is.
Sturdier up there, yes but stopping alternator swinging, prob. wont make much difference.Cant hurt though for up there.
Ill check this thread for some pics later and see whats "left" as far as room goes and if anything can be used back there.
:)
Re: [Headers]: L98 guys with headers..... (scorp508)
I know mine's an LT1, but I just thought I would add my $.02 anyway. Free post and all. :)
None of my brackets are installed that go from the alternator or A/C compressor back to the block or mainfolds. One of them would fit, the others won't. So far I haven't found any trouble running without them. It's a good thing because it would be impossible to install them. I've got some pictures on my web page. http://12.222.168.65/htmls/corvette.html
Mine looks like JD's. If you HAD to, you can gut/grind/weld/fabricate just about anything, so I'm sure if it was super important, we could make a custom stud for that back bracket and modify the bracket to clear the tube. If you to Doc's tomorrow night,AND if my car is done, I'll show you.
But I'm not sure if it answers Scorp's question, because you still have the air pump attached. With the air pump eliminator bracket the alternator moves down and out further - - (I've got an air pump eliminator bracket too, and I'm also looking at getting headers) - - so, I'm also concerned on whether or not the rear bracket will work and with which header (I was looking at either the TPIS or LPE ones).
Re: [Headers]: L98 guys with headers..... (scorp508)
I'm running LPE headers on my 90 and I'm not using the secondary alternator bracket on it. Now, my car has a different alternator than the earlier C4's, so I scoped out my wife's 85 with the Hooker headers... I have a bad memory and couldn't remember whether I used the bracket or not...I didn't. And we haven't had any probs. I'm also using the 2151 headers instead of the 2149's which are exactly the same except there are no smog fittings and the O2 bung is in the collector instead of #7 exhaust runner like on the 2149's.

Great pictures guys, and JD thanks for the fast reply.Looks doable either way you go wether make one or adapt the stock piece to it..Thats good to know for future mods.
