I HAD TO REPLACE MY FRONT BUMPER ON MY 1984...I DISCONNECTED THE POSITIVE POLE AND PULLED THE BUMPER ASSEMBLY. UNFORTUNATELY THE CAR HAD TO SIT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE I COULD GET BACK TO IT. THE OTHER DAY I HAD TO MOVE THE CAR TO A BETTER PLACE TO WORK ON IT. I CONNECTED THE BATTERY AND TURNED THE KEY....NOTHING ELECTRICAL CAME ON....I HOOKE THE BATTERY UP FOR A JUMP AND STILL NOTHING ELECTRICAL CAME ON.....ANY HELP APPRECIATED....THANKS
You have a forever dead battery and need to replace it. Lead acid batteries even disconnected, self discharge slowly and when they sit for long periods the plates get coated with lead sulfate which is an insulator and effectively disconnects the battery and it has little or no amp hour capacity. Whenever you store a battery, put a battery charger on it once a week, or buy a 24 hour timer and set it for its minimum interval (usually 15 mins) and have your battery charger charge it once a day. This will prevent your battery from sulfating. You can also buy a battery tender which does the same thing, or a trickle charger, but be sure the trickle charger has a tapering charge or says it turns off automatically when the battery is charged.
Yup, I second that notion. I beleive your battery has gone south forever. Try jumping the car with a good battery out of another car. Or better yet, exchange them. If everything works, your battery is dead. If it doesn't then you have either a loose connection or bad connection in the wires that go from the battery to the starter. :D
