Ok. Time to put the GS flares on. I was going to use 3M double sided tape. With regard to screwing them down: This was done stock. I've heard the tape is fine but I'm leary of blowing one off at 125mph+. Not that I would drive that fast for all my friends in law enforcement. But I'm also reluctant to put a hole in the body to screw them on. Who has used tape only and what are your experiences with speed and weather for that matter. She's outside under a cover in the winter in the NE. Also, is there a 3M product number, etc. on the tape? How thick/wide should I get, etc. Thanks for your help
That 3M tape actually tends to hold very well. Most of the VentVisor things are held on with it. My friend has some ground effects on his Dodge Daytona that are held on mostly with this tape, it seems to do fine. However this car runs 19.60 @ 70 mph in the quarter, so I don't think high speed is really an issue with him.
I'm like you, I'd kinda be afraid to try it for fear of having one fly off, but at the same time you don't want to drill the car. What to do, what to do :smash: :smash:
Hey,
The tape will hold fine. I taped mine on and it was a daily driver for over a year no problems. That includes alot of highway miles (with one excursion to about 130 mph, I was'nt looking at the speedometer after 128). Actually there are alot of things that might fly off before the flares
I got mine cheap from Jeff Kopp at Superior Chevrolet(18carfan on the forum). Great guy. Great prices. They are unfinished and you can have them sprayed at a body shop pretty cheap.

I've just about financed Jeff home with the number of parts I've purchased from him. I have to agree oustanding person. :yesnod: Do you mind if I ask how much they were?
I got mine from my Chevy dealer. (approx $200-$250) Had the bodyshop that painted mine install them with tape. Been on for 3.5 years with no problemo's. Still on after 145+mph. :yesnod:
That tape is really good. Just make sure that you clean the surfaces real good with an alcohol swab or something equivalent to get any excess wax or oils off of the surfaces to be bonded.
