Nope. Haven't had $$ or time. Runs great, drives great, just doesn'tlike how I push it when I auto-x it. Let me rephrase.. . the car seems to love it. THe oil tries to escape!
the hose was newer than the valve, but I didn't pull it yet. Considering the cost of intake gaskets I may just pull it and clean the ports and make sure all teh lines are clear. Just need more hours in the day.
Interesting developmnet. Haven't done anything with the car other than drive it. A lot. almost 900 miles in 4 weeks. Took it out yesterday for one of our autocrosses and no oil pukage. Still a little seep around the oilcap that looks like a poorly fitting cap. But nothing coming out of the breather tube.
Maybe the car had just been sitting too damn long?
Do you have aftermarket valve covers. Some of them don't have a good baffle built into them for the pcv valve and will allow oil to enter the hose. Look into the hole and make sure the baffle is there even if you have stock covers.
It did when I changed the valve itself. Car is just under a half quart low and it never drops below 35psi even coming off a run with oil temps pushing 230... as the engine cooled down the oil pressure would climb back over 40.
Dad thinks the rings needed time to reseat after sitting for so long. He may be right.... or he may not. I'm not going to complain about not smelling burning oil, that I can tell you.
I use the term "sludge" loosely. The oil was very dark and very nasty but there was no "sludge" in the traditional sense of the word. I have not pulled the valve covers yet as I haven't had time to do so.
My '90 is doing the same thing. Found out that the PCV hose is so old a brittle that it was split in the middle. $35 from Corvette Central. Going to put it on tonight and see if that solves the problem.
I suspect you answered your own question. I'd run the compression tests
to narrow it down.
Well it is obvious the PO never changed the oil and did not drive it fast, so you really need to freshen up the motor. It is always possable that some rings are stuck, but not usually. In the mean time you can vent the crankcase, yup, vent the crankcase to eliminate the pressure build up. if the air gets out the oil will stay in. if you look at engines that are run at high rpm like a sprint car or modified, you will see 2 breathers on the valve cover. there are baffles in there to seperate the oil from the air. on extreme cases they vent the crank case into a large tank that is vented on top and returns the oil on the bottom back into the crank case. its a quick fix untill you have the time to re ring the motor.
