Default Half Shaft Universal Joints

Are the two universal joints on the half shafts the same part used on the drive shaft?

Thanks

Steve

nope - the 1/2 shafts are all the same but those driveshaft joints are a different size. Perhaps someone will chime in with some part numbers for you.

The Spicers are OEM, but are discontinued.

You can get Neapco Brute Force ujoints from Advance.

The halfshafts endure a bit more load, and therefore their u-joints are a good bit larger than the driveshaft u-joints.

FYI,
The driveshaft doesn't move so the u-joints don't wear much.
I pulled the driveshaft out of my automatic 87 at 190,000 miles; if I didn't already have the u-joints and it wasn't such a pain to get out I would not have changed them.
I would think a manual car would be harder on u-joints.
I decided to change them when I changed the halfshaft u-joints for the 2nd time.

the drive shaft uses two spicer 1310 series u joints. The half shafts use spicer 1350 series joints. Those are series numbers, not part numbers. The 1350s are bigger in every dimension, than the 1310s.

Race on!!!

Still available , just the part #'s have changed

Spend the extra $$$ and buy the solid 1350's for the halfshafts
The 5-799X is the same as the 5-800X listed above but without the coating for use with aluminum driveshafts.

No, the OEM Spicer ujoints are discontinued. They want you to use a ujoint for steel shafts since they discontinued the coated OEM ujoints.

As I recall, Action has a good price but S/H will make the difference in the end. Try to find them locally first. I would also look at rockautoparts.com. Reasonable prices and shipping.
