Help no brakes! This is a long story so here goes. This is a 1986 has 34000 miles
bought last year with 28000. The problem I am having is the brakes keep going out.
The first week we bought the car the brakes went to the floor. Took it to the dealer and they put new master cylinder on. Two day, s later it did the same thing so I took it back they bleed the system. The next week the same thing this time the cap on the reserve blow off. I took it back again this time they flushed the brake lines. That worked for about a month or two. Now it started doing it again.
My thoughts are to change master cylinder again and flush with silicone base fluid.
Forgot to say that it only does this when it, s hot. I am thinking that the brake fluid is
contaminated so when it gets to the boiling point is when they go out.
PLEASE any help on this will be appreciate
Also am I doing the right thing with the silicone brake fluid?
This is going to sound bad...but I will try to help...that same thing happened to me after I was being chased by some crazy guy in a truck that hit me on the highway and I was speeding away and I was on my brakes hard a couple of times and then when I was coming to a stop the brakes hit the floor and I had to pump them to get then to work? So after telling my mechanic this story he said my fluid was boiling and making the pedal soft. So it is not a problem everyday...but I would say the fluid is getting hot and making the fluid thin and losing pressure? How long are you driving it when it does the problem? I would check and see how close your lines are to the exhaust and if they were close I would cover them with some heat resistance tape or something to that sort? But that only happened to me the one time I was being chased! So that is the only thing I could think is that the fluid is getting to hot? I hope this helps but I am no expert on this matter!
Thanks
:)

Re: HELP NO BRAKES!!! (daddydahlin)
Do not put DOT 5 fluid in the system.
You need to go to a different shop. It sure sounds like you have ANOTHER bad MC, but maybe not. Whatever the reason, the shop you are going to does not know what they are doing, IMO. Take it elsewhere.
Agreed! DO NOT use DOT5 brake fluid in your older system. You have to stay with DOT3. You can use the high temp. (heavy duty which raises the boiling point).... the DOT5 silicone will raise havoc with your parts.
Thanks every one for your help. After reading your post and a few things on the net about dot 5 I decided to use dot 4. I put master cylinder in this morning and flushed system with 2 quarts dot 4. Fluid was filthy.Dealer said they flush 5 months ago when I took it back the 3rd time(BULL SH**).Any how drove it about 2 hours.Got it good and hot a lot of hard stops. No problems I think its fixed finally.I really think there was moisture in the old fluid.
Again thanks to all
