Default porting job.

I have just take my off my plenum. And port the runner holes about 3mm. Can I port the RUNNERS when still on the car? I dont whant to take of the runners. I have put in paper in the runners to prevent dirt and alu parts from the porting job reach the cylinder heads. ?? And what gain can i get from this?

No here too, I thought about doing that, but then thought better of it. Take the runners off to port them. :yesnod:

Take the runners off. Very easy to do.

Porting will create tons of aluminum dust everywhere.

will I gain annyhting if I just port the plenum runner holes but NOT the runners? Or will that be even worse then before due to the diffrence in size between the plenum and runners holes??

There is a little ridge at the very opening of the runners, that is all I removed on mine. You can't really port the runners because the metal is too thin. Here's some pics of my plenum after porting it.

If you aren't going to port the runners, just port match and flute the openings into the plenum and port match the TB openings and remove the excess material from the front floor and sides.

but wont the there be a litte "edge" if the plenum runner holes are wider then the runner it sefl? And be bad for the flow?

On the upstream side, yes a step will disrupt flow. On the downstream side, no.
An example is the exhaust ports are almost always smaller than the header pipes. It doesn't bother the flow out and actually helps to prevent reversion of the exhaust pulse when the valve closes.

ok. But If I have ported my plenum, the holes on the side on the plenum that connects to the runners, to be bigger. And not to match the runners area to the new dimension there will be a litte "edge" on the runners. Wouldent that be downstream?

I ported my runners, plenum, and lower. took me a couple of days to do, about 15 hrs. Stupid dremel :boxing . i went into the runners until you see the 'compression weld' mark. with all pieces of the intake ported, its my understanding that you will pick up a little rpms up top, without losing on the bottom. well, i have plenty of bottom end, considering i have absolutely no traction in first gear, most of second, and still kicks out in third. stupid tires :boxing. Do a search on porting the intake, there are alot of people who have done this, and some have hard data to check out. Good luck and try to get the right tools for the job, makes it a lot easier!!

OK, idealy you will gasket match the runners to the plenum and flaring the upper ends is a plus. For this you need to pull the runners too.

It realy isn't that difficult to pull the runners. You will need a long Torx driver to reach the lower runner bolts and some open/box end metric wrenches.

I'm not sure about that.

Have you considered pulling the base and siamesing adjacent runners there??

i pulled my plenum because im putting in a adfpr. And then i thougth -what the hell lets port the plenum wile I have it off the car! Now the plenum is portet, i have widen the holes about 2.5mm all the way around. And i thougt I could port the runner holes 2.5mm to when they still sit on the car. But everyone says NO. And I really dont have time or will to pull the runners AND base of the car. So I tought I put my ported plenum back on the orgninal runners. But I wont do that if it will hurt preformance.. So I have an ide of how to port the runners still on the car. I will seal the inside of the runners with a pice of plastic and silicon. And connect my mini factory vaccume cleaner to the dremel. Then it should be impossible that debris should reach the heads.

regards
