Well, I swapped in my Dana 44, my 2600 stall converter, my Hooker SC's and my 2 1/2" dual exhaust.:D:D:D Finally!!!!!
The car definitely feels quicker. It seems to have maybe lost a little grunt with the free flow exhaust but the gears (3.07 from 2.59) seem to compensate. If I go WOT at about 20, it wails into 1st and puts me back in the seat pretty good. It feels like it should be right around 13.6 the way it is. I had a few rattles to work out and one leaky tranny line but overall it seems to be good. We'll see what it does at the track next week. :chevy
I still have the 2.59's but after my converter ...man It gives me a kick in the pants when at WOT downshifting to first and the to second I get thrown in the seat. Love it :D
I am curious to see how that combo works out. How far in the air was your car when you did the TCC swap? Did you take the whole tranny out, or just lower and back it up a bit? Good luck, I'm looking forward to hearing times.
Thanks Scorp. I am wondering how far I have to remove the tranny to swap the TCC. Whether I can just lower and move it back, or if I have to drop it totally.
I pulled the tranny all the way out. There isn't enough room to just slide it back because the input shaft is so long. Once the exhaust , driveshaft and torque tube are off, its really easy to pull the tranny down. I ran a chain across the arms of the lift with some 2X6's under the oil pan to support the engine. Don't forget to disconnect the TV cable! I found it easier to disconnect it from the tranny end, didn't have to snake it through the intake. Basically, you unplug the speed sensor and lockup wiring, disconnect the cooler lines, remove the inspection cover and remove the three converter bolts. After that, remove the dipstick and the six bellhousing bolts and it comes right down. I had the HUGE advantage of a lift and a tranny jack but I have pulled lots of trannies on my back in my driveway and this was one of the easiest I have done.
