Default Brake Booster - Revisited

Good Afternoon Everyone....

Apologize in advance if this was already clarified but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for when doing my search....

Basically, I need to replace my brake booster for my 96.

According to some of the older posts; it was recommended to stary away from the Cardone brand (although, they seem to be the only player left in the local parts store) and possibly use one of the metal boosters from an earlier c4.

Now, what I couldn't confirm or find out, is if anyone with a newer c4 (94-96) that actually replaced it with the older one and if so, did you have to modify anything to make it work?

I followed one of the links to Hot Rod USA (for a 85-91)

http://www.hotrodsusa.com/store/product341.html

and spoke to Dean and he thought it would work but also thought I had to modify or adjust the length of the rod...

Any input would be greatly appreciated, as you can see, the price is great and Dean was very helpful.....

Thanks in advance,

glenn

ive used the plastic boosters with no problem just limberup!! practice by sitting upside down in your kitchen chair reaching through a donut hole and try to lift a 15 lb bowling ball throught the hole without moving the donut

I was perusing through the GM manual for my '93, at the section where it describes how to install a new internals kit into the brake booster. There were 3-4 couple J-tools you needed, one of them was a gauge that measured the position of the tie rod w/respect to a surface on the housing itself. So that's a critical measurement.

I bet if you looked up the brake booster re-building section in the manual for the year of brake booster you are thinking of substituting, and see if in there they don't use that same J-tool gauge. If they do, then you are probably good to go as that appears to be the relevant dimension. I'd be anxious to know myself, I'm about to install one of those cardone pieces of

my 93 has a poor design feature, that the inside brackets through which the booster bolts must pass thru the firewall, are mechanically biased so the holes don't line up dnmed feeking thing. you have to bias the brackets back , I'm trying wood wedges, am almost there. biggest PIA
