Earlier this morn. I was told my Vette was in the parking lot and the alarm was going off. Well I don't have an aftermarket alarm just what came factory (no fob to set or disarm). I go out and the horn is honking but just as I get to it it stops. I start the car and it acts like the battery is weak so I let it run for about 10-15 min and go back in to work. When I leave for lunch it weakly starts again and as I'm driving the digital display flashes "SYS". Is this just a weak battery or is it something different, I also took the car home and put it on the charger. I would appreciate any help or ideas.
If it discharges again with the alarm set, replace the battery.
A 'discharged' battery will not hurt the alternator. The alternator is designed to keep the battery 'charged' and if it's just a matter of the battery running down because the alarm is on for a long time, the alternator will recharge it when you drive.
A shorted cell, on the other hand, can blow the diodes in the alternator so have the battery tested just to be safe.
I have a both problems but found them quickly, it also happened at night for some odd reason on my 91. It was my door sensor. It kicked the lights on in the car which set off the alarm them by time I got to the car ready to kick some thief booty the lights were off. Did it a couple times them found that my passenger door switch was going bad. I would also check your battery and alternator. Easy to do or can have auto parts place do it for free. .

I'm pretty sure that my driver side door sensor needs replaced, because when driving sometimes my interior lights will come on but a little bump from my elbow on the arm rest usually shuts it off. I've never had it go off when I'm not in the car though. I'll look into it. The car is on the charger now hopefully when I get off work I won't have any problems with the "SYS" alert anymore.
Hi. Just going through some of the threads on here and noticed yours. I would recommend checking the actual connections at the battery. Could be that one of the terminals is pulling out of the battery itself. I've seen it happen a few times. The connection is secure, but the post itself is coming out. Will cause intermittent problems. And if unchecked, can leasd to acid leaks that'll start eating everything up. Good Luck.
