Is there a way to install a 93-96 computer into a 90? Then have it program to work for my vette?
I ask because I like to start upgrading to the obo2 so I can use the hand held tech. I would love to buy a vette with the obo 2 in it but I got the year I wanted. So, can anyone help me with the above question.
I'm having trouble understanding what you want to accomplish, there are scan tools that will function with your OBDI ECM as well as cables and software to data log to a laptop.
The only C4 computer that is OBDII compliant is the 96, but for it to function and provide misfire and cat efficiency information the 96 engines also have a crankshaft position sensor and 4 O2 sensors. Your 90 has no crank position sensor and only a single O2 sensor, it is a speed density system with batch fire injectors, the 96 is MAF with sequential injection, my guess is that the conversion you want is impractical if not impossible.
that maybe true but they just tell where to look not what part is bad. like my FX3 say the system is bad when it was just a bad shock.
No paperclip, scanner or software will tell you what part is bad, DTC's or Diagnostic Trouble Codes are just that, a starting point for diagnosis. The next step in the process is to follow the steps in the Factory Service Manual for the code retrieved to isolate the root cause of the problem. Scan tools and software do have the ability to read the data stream which can certainly help with diagnosis unlike simply retrieving codes using a paperclip.
You should also understand that all consumer grade tools and scanning software will only read data from the ECM/PCM. You will need a Tech 1, Tech 2 or other professional grade scan tool to access data from ABS, FX3, or CCM controllers.
