I just recently picked up a neglected 1984 corvette and was underneath the dash, near the brake pedals, fixing a broken brake light switch when I noticed two relays, wire connected to each other with a couple wires ripped out. One of which I accidentally ripped. I'm trying to determine what these two hella brand relays go to. Any ideas?
I checked simple operation of devices, such as high beams, headlights, turn signals, hazards lights, and fog lights and all seem to work fine. The fan is hard wired and doesn't use relays so I'm not sure if they go to the fan.
There is an aftermarket radio installed with a ton of wiring under there for what I can only assume was the bose amp system and am curious if they may have gone to that.
I see a lot of people looking, but had no answers, I want to assume it's because nobody else had them under their dash. I repaired the damage and wrapped the whole thing up in tape and stuffed it out of the way. hopefully it was for something old and removed...there wasa ton...a TON of radio style wires near the relays that also were not in use.
Does you car have an aftermarket radio or audio amplifier or any other aftermarket electronics? Those relays may have been installed to operate the aftermarket stuff. Buy a GM service manual, including the electrical diagnosis book which shows the schematic and pictures of parts locations. If you are going to work on your car, you need to know what is supposed to be there, how it works, and where the parts are! Manuals make repair jobs 900% easier.
