Railroadman needs info

He's in his 92 LT1. He's getting a high pitch hum from the fuel pump. The fuel pump is 1 year old. He says the car is driving fine. Wants to know if he should be concerned.
I will relay all replies to him. Thanks

Also tell Don that he should pick up one of these

Just tell him his Canuck friend is looking out for him, as always

Good luck on your trip Don

Thanks again to you both.

Tell him it's on it's way out - the bearings are starting to go... WHEN it's going to go out is the only question... May be weeks, may be years... I'd say he's got plenty of time if it just started happening - tell him to just change it when he's got the car home and has time.
FWIW - I have a chevy pickup that whined for almost 2 years (not driven daily though) until it finally quit - a quick wack under the pump on the tank while having someone turn the key on got it going again until I could change it out...
The girlfriend's old 2000 pontismack firebird made the same noise you described but only when it was over 90 degrees (F) outside....kinda weird. She drove the car for 2 more years without a problem then traded it in for a new ride when she couldn't take the "whine" noise any more.

I did put it back on when I was diagnosing my fuel issue and it was fine.

Thanks to all

Thanks for all the replies and especially to Beadist for acting as relay and clearinghouse!
Fuel pump started making a fairly loud "singing" about Cinci. Approaching Lexington KY, where we had planned to stay, I started losing the pedal unless I feathered it - going uphill got dicey. Really felt like starving for fuel. Took a motel after 3 attempts - the "World Equestrian Games" was going on and everything was booked. Stayed at a Best Western, decent but not outstanding - and this morning found I should'a asked first - it was $170

Decided this AM to entrust it to GM, set out for the nearest Chevy Dealer - and found it was out of business! The Hyundai dealer a block away was doing great business. Found another Chevy dealer who did take us in, changed the filter for $80 but what can you do 3 states away from home! We were satisfied, and appreciated them getting us right in.
The good news is the car ran perfectly after that - fuel pump is quieter so apparently it was trying to force fuel thru a plugged filter and making noise from effort. All in all, if that's the worst we encounter we can deal with it.
So we're at our daughters in Tennessee, leaving Sunday for Memphis for the St Jude's event and looking forward to meeting some of the good CF folks. Then to the NCM and plant tour Tuesday.
Thanks again for the support - our son pointedly remarked that if we were in the 21st century and had a smart phone we could have accessed CF as we were traveling down the interstate! I guess fogey-dom has its drawbacks!
Talk to all y'all tomorrow!
