Railroadman needs info

Thanks for all the replies and especially to Beadist for acting as relay and clearinghouse!
Fuel pump started making a fairly loud "singing" about Cinci. Approaching Lexington KY, where we had planned to stay, I started losing the pedal unless I feathered it - going uphill got dicey. Really felt like starving for fuel. Took a motel after 3 attempts - the "World Equestrian Games" was going on and everything was booked. Stayed at a Best Western, decent but not outstanding - and this morning found I should'a asked first - it was $170

Decided this AM to entrust it to GM, set out for the nearest Chevy Dealer - and found it was out of business! The Hyundai dealer a block away was doing great business. Found another Chevy dealer who did take us in, changed the filter for $80 but what can you do 3 states away from home! We were satisfied, and appreciated them getting us right in.
The good news is the car ran perfectly after that - fuel pump is quieter so apparently it was trying to force fuel thru a plugged filter and making noise from effort. All in all, if that's the worst we encounter we can deal with it.
So we're at our daughters in Tennessee, leaving Sunday for Memphis for the St Jude's event and looking forward to meeting some of the good CF folks. Then to the NCM and plant tour Tuesday.
Thanks again for the support - our son pointedly remarked that if we were in the 21st century and had a smart phone we could have accessed CF as we were traveling down the interstate! I guess fogey-dom has its drawbacks!
Talk to all y'all tomorrow!
