Ignition Module Replaced and...
I just replaced my ignition module on my 87 but now it seems to shift differently. On a slow exceleration it shift at a higher RPM. Should this be happening?

I bought it from the Advanced Auto Parts and it was not a GM Module- I think iot was called Z-Line or something. I kept the box and will have to check. Maybe I can run the part number to make sure they gave me the correct module.

check if the AAP p/n for an 87 chev caprice is the same as their vette module p/n...if so, call Houston, may have a problem (ask for acdelco module for vette/caddy app, local acdelco parts store price should beat dealer long long time)

On a 1987 a module has nothing to do with shift points.Shift points are from governor and throttle position. But if engine is not running right maybe your giving it more gas that makes it shift later.Did you check timing?

I did play with the cable> I was checking the tention on it. I was figuring this may have something to do with it. Should i have disconnected the batter to reset the computer after i put the module in?

The TV cable sets the shift points. It has teeth on the body. Did you actually move it out of position? The further back towards the firewall it is the later the trans shifts.
To adjust press and hold that "D" shaped button and slide the cable all the way towards the firewall till it stops. Release the button. Now with the engine off either floor the gas pedal or open the throttle body all the way. The cable should ratchet into position as you do this and it's set. If it binds the cable is bad.
If you did not move this cable out of position then it's not the problem.
