i have a 92 6 speed corvette. It has a new stage 2 clutch, new clutch master cylinder, and slave cylinder. it was driving fine until today. I took the roof of and was driving down the highway and traffic started to build up when i shifted to nuetral and I could barely get into 1st and second. 3rd 4th 5th 6th All work fine but to get it into first i have to shove it into gear. once its in gear (1st 2nd) it drives fine and normal. But i have to use alot of power to get it thier.
Usually when it was normal i had play in nuetral. I could move the shifter left and right when it was in nuetral. but now it only moves right towards 5th an 6th. my best guess is the shift linkage im no mechanic.
There is no external shift linkage on the ZF6. Is the clutch action normal? If it is, you could have an issue with the shift lever pivot, which you can see by taking off both shift boots inside the car. If the clutch is not releasing fully, you would have trouble shifting, but the odd "neutral" lever feel would not be clutch related.
I actually took the boot of the top but i really couldnt see anything. what, were would the shift lever pivot be and how would u fix it. I pretty sure its not my clutch because it shifts fine and its been shifting fine. (of course until it whatever broke) i have a new clutch, and the works.
There are actually two boots, the one that shows and a rubber one under it. IIRC, you have to remove the console trim to get to the inner one. My thought about the lever pivot was that maybe it is binding. I've never heard anyone say they had to lube the lever mechanism, but it's worth looking at because the alternative could be trans internals.
