I have a '94 vette. I am in need of the 2 helper struts located in front of the air box on the hood. They are only like 6-8 inches long and look to be as big around as a normal shock. Long story short, a bodyshop lost mine and GM has discontinued them. The hood is really really heavy and hard to lift without them. Anyone know of where I can get some new ones??

I don't know how yours differ from mine but here we have Schucks Auto stores (like Autozone) and they have a display rack with a wide array of struts. Of course they don't stock the listed PN for the corvette but they can order them in within a couple of days. I have not checked on the exact price but the ones on the rack, which look very similar to mine range in price from $ 12 - $23. Seems to be highway robbery that someone would try to sell them for more money than a Bilisten shock. :mad

Not really sure what mounting brackets you're talking about. Is it possible the design changed over the years maybe? I just had to replace the struts themselves. Each end was attached with a pin, washers and a cotter pin.

Not an option, I have them on my 85, you should too. There are 2, way down in front by the air filter. Maybe some PO removed them because they quit and never replaced them. Mine were shot and when I replaced them the hood would stay open on its own. I think mine cost $10.00e (cdn)
Bought mine at Auto Zone for $20. Ea. Looked it up in his book, went to the display. They hooked up with no problems. What a differance it made. It sure made me

Great! thanks I'll think I'll stop by and pick a couple up. I'm currently doing the front end bushings at the moment, and the hood stand has to be disconnected to get the passenger a-arm out. I was holding up the hood w/ a 2x4, and needless to say, I was a little nervous about that thing coming down on my head
