Oh Jake thanks for the suggestion. I've actually thought about them but I was not comfortable driving it there. It's nearly an hour drive from my location and I didn't want to damage anything. Have you had good experience with them?
I was just trying to put you in touch with a shop that could help solve your problem. I've never had to use a shop to solve any issue with my Vettes, so, no, I don't have any personal experience with them.
They may have been able to recommend a shop closer to you. You know, give 'em a call, explain your problem, listen to what they say and take it from there.
Good news though, that you may have solved your problem. I have my fingers crossed.
Thanks MSD. Alright now I'll tell the story for those who may find this useful in the future. So day after my last post the problems started again however I was busy so I didn't make any new posts. A few days later it finally threw a service engine code and disabled the A/C while I was driving. Got home and checked it. It was an code 36 (if I remember correctly). Anyway it pointed to the opti spark, the thing I had been trying to avoid doing thinking it wasn't it.
So I ordered a new opti spark, water pump, wires, and timing seals and spent the better part of a week working on it whenever I could find the time. Got down to the distributor and uncovered that red devil. Replaced the demon part, got it buttoned all back up and it's been running great for the last week! I'll never buy anything MSD now. Put a Delphi on there and beforehand i locktighted the rotor screws and rtv'd the seals.
Thanks to everyone for helping me through this and all those that have posted instruction on how to replace the optispark in the past. Hopefully this thing will run well for many years now as I'm tired of working on it.
well glad you finally figured it out. and thanks for actually coming back to post up what fixed it. Man is it annoying to read a thread and the OP vanishes.
99.9% of the time when something was ok before you messed with it and it is not after you are done it is something that was done wrong. connection not hooked up, a difference in the part that was not noticed ect. I would dubble check every connection you touched even if you have to unplug each one and make sure a pin did not get bent wire broke ect. also check each and every vac hose you touched. can the intake gaskets go on wrong and still line up? just look at everything you touched looked at breathed on ect and I will bet you will find your problem

I totally/100% agree with that and often post the very same thing.
Moving from a changing the intake gasket to a failed OPTI is a Hugh leap. It's just not logical. I don't see anyway that changing the intake gasket can cause the OPTI TO FAIL unless something was done to cause it when changing the gasket.
The possibility of this being a coincidence is so remote I'd discount it until all else has been addressed FIRST.
Of course, if you're problem has, indeed been corrected, this is more for the benefit of others - or even yourself - if ever faced with a similar situation.
