Can someone tell me what size the hold down bolts are on the roof panel? A friend has started to strip his "retainers" and I was looking to chase them with a tap. The closest I can come with a thread gage is 20 threads per inch and the bolts look to be about 5/16. This isn't standard. Are they metric?
I'm not sure of the size , but I believe they are metric, the holes that they fit in are adjustable both for verticle and lateral movement. If theyre to far gone you can purchase all the parts from most of the advertisers on this site, hope this helps
Just checked a spare bolt I have and it's a M8x1.25 thread. You didn't say if the bolts are for the rear or the encapsulated bolts in the windshield frame, but both bolts (Torx T-40) are available from various suppliers.
There is not a lot of depth to the holes on the female thread side so be careful. Don't use a tap designed for cutting new threads; there are "thread chaser" taps that are designed specifically to refresh existing threads.
Thanks for the reply with the bolt size. I was going to use a bottoming tap to chase the retainers. Thanks too for the vedor resource suggestions. I need to get some of my friends more computer/forum literate so that they can benefit from the wisdom that resides here.
