1988 4+3 transmission problem
I have a 1988 4+3 tran.it has been running great considering 94000 miles.a little while ago when i would push the button on the shifter to engage or disengage the od unit it would not work.sometimes i had to push it several times to get it to work.now i can push on it till doomsday and nothing happens.the fluids are all up to proper levels.when i shift the car into 2nd gear it goes into overdrive,if i step on it,it will downshift into regular 2nd gear and go,if i let up on the gas or shift into 3rd it goes right into od again. any thoughts would be helpful. i think it is the switch.if it is has anyone ever changed one and how hard would it be to do. would really appreciate any help you can give me on this problem thanks mike

If not it will cost you $70

Switch is mounted on shifter shaft at base under boot.
Carefully prise out button, remove metal T locking **** in place, undo **** , remove boot
Unbolt old switch and fit new one.

MUST be momentary operation ; not ON/OFF type
Radioshack #275-1549 or similar
This will require soldering in , the original replacement from Ecklers linked above appear to be no longer available

Exact part is Tyco #1825040-2 (switch only)
Mouser Electronics pn 506-MPA106F04
(800)346-6873
SPDT MOM Panel Mount
Original GM complete harness #14087693
I have both but am holding on to them.
You might get away with backing out the adjustment by a turn.
