Default Yet another LT-1 ignition question.

I developed a miss. I tested and found that cyl. 1 is not firing at all. As well the vent hose from the intake tube to the opti has been cut in half by a pulley. So the question is, should I replace the opti while I am in there? I do have a lift and money isn't a problem, I have actually been thinking about going all MSD pro billet opti, cap/rotor, coil, wires, 6al, wiring harness, and plug change. Opinions welcome.

Matt,

are you positively sure that the #1 wire is connected? Test the Opti #1 port and if there no spark, I guess you would have to replace it.

I have the MSD Opti, Coil on both of my Vettes and they are great. I use MSD wires on my 95 and Magnecor on my 96. Other members will chime in to give you their comments and details on the 6AL, I dont have it

Due to the fact this is an Opti thread I have to post the-

Oh yeah, it is connected. No fire from the opti... Most likely got fubar because of that line was what I am thinking. Used a dealer service program and looks like there was a technical service bulletin on this many years ago about that line and how it WILL EVENTUALLY cause opti failure if/when damaged. Figure eventually is here and might as well go back with nice stuff even if I may be selling it.

I bought my WP from O' Reilly Auto Parts for $119.00 (lifetime warranty, no core swap). Sure beats the heck outta' the dealer price of $350 bones.

For LT1 plugs, I like the NGK TR-55 Double Platinums. Set gap at .060 and don't forget the anti-seize compound (aluminum heads). For wires, I went with the NAPA/Belden 7 mm. Super Blue Premium, but Taylor and AC/Delco-Packard ignition wires are great, too.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the MSD opti. The Delco is what everyone has told me to stay with. Just had my pump rebuilt by Water Pump Man in Mich. $70.

I got 75K out of my last W/P from Water Pump Man. This time I went with a new GMB pump with a larger bearing and lifetime warranty from Advanced Auto for 91.00 bucks with a 30% discount and free shipping.
Good Luck!
