I agree. I have seen plenty of TPI applications with these cone filters. Most all of them have been at shows where they are going for eye appeal. On street cars, they've always been on SD cars where the MAF didn't get in the way. (Or on the claw of course.)
I suppose it's clever that they figured out a way to accomplish the mod, but (IMO) you'd be better off picking up colder air from the stock location.
