Distributor Removal
I am changing the intake gaskets. I have a few questions about removing the distributor. My main question is how do I get it back in the way it came out? What is the procedure? Is there anything special I should know? Also what kind of gaskets do you guys suggest? TIA

Well, there are a couple different ways. If you are NOT going to rotate the engine simply note the location of what way the rotor is facing. Pull the distributer straight up (The rotor will rotate) and kind of remember where it stopped. Upon re-install push it slowly back down in and it will rotate again and should end up where it started. If you plan on rotating the engine, you will need to find TDC on the compression stroke and line up the rotor with the number 1 spark plug. :) Hope that helps. As far as gaskets, do you mean for the intake or the distributer ring?

As stated by Red84crossfire, if your are NOT going to rotate the engine you can note the position and pull it. Trouble is my memory is crap :( so I mark the position of one of the cap mounting holes to the intake using a drill bit to make a little dimple you can barely see and use a marker and draw a line from the rotor to the to the base of the distributor. I can drop it in within a couple of degrees. I'm sure others may have more sane methods. I'm just a weak novice but I sure have fun :D

I'll be pulling my dist & intake soon and plan on FelPro gaskets with black silicone for the front & rear intake lands.
I usually crank her to #1 TDC, mark the cap to the base, mark the base to the intake & mark the rotor "after" it has been pulled up (so I can aligin it before droppint it bakc in).

Again if you're not going to rotate engine, I pull the cap and spin the engine until the tip of the rotor point straight forward. That way no remembering, no marks to watch. Has worked great for me on all types of engines. Good Luck
