Would like suggestions on brands of alternators, to replace a failed unit on a '92 vette. Thanking in advance for advise. I have replaced one before on a 92 s10 p/u and read the forum here, and process is the same. So I'm ready to go --- just need advice on which unit to buy.
Thanks again, Mike

Have Your Original Alternator Rebuilt by your local starter and alternator repair shop. They will do a much better job rebuilding than what any of the parts stores want to sell you.
Or Purchase a POWERMASTER XS SERIES GM CS130 140 Amp Alternator for Your Corvette. Has an Adjustable Voltage Regulator on the backside of the alternator you must adjust yourself.
I chose the POWERMASTER XS SERIES GM CS130 STYLE 140 AMP ALTERNATOR IN BLACK POWDERCOAT to install on my 87 Vert.
Works Great. Allways plenty of Voltage and Current for all demands
and Bright Headlights for Night Time Driving.

I usually just pick up a rebuilt one from the local auto parts store and haven't had problems. Maybe I'm just lucky. If the quality of the rebuild units are a concern, I'd suggest finding a local shop that rebuilds them instead - the price should be comparable and the quality might be better.

rebuild your original. If you don't have a good local shop try Colonel John Perkle. He rebuilds alternators to OEM specs and does a great job. You will not be disappointed. His contact information is as follows:

For alternators and starters this is what I do here. My local rebuilder rebuilds them with quality parts to like new operation at a much lower price than a parts store unit. Sometimes though certain applications are so dirt cheap from the store w/lifetime warranty that I just go with one of those instead.
Also recommend a local rebuilder. Try the yellow pages, -Automotive-electrical or alternators. Visit the shop. A good one will have a lathe, couple of testers, possibly someone with gray hair and thick glasses. They love bench work, you remove the alternator and bring it in. They will check diodes, bearings, brushes, etc. and bill according to what you need. If you see generators from bulldozers, forklifts, heavy commercial stuff, a good sign. My former rebuilder started with his Dad when he was 14. Really good on alternators and starters.
I would not surrender my original unit unless it caught fire.

Enjoy your car.
I agree, but with reservations. There was a local long-time rebuilder with whom I had a bad experience, only to find out too late that he was known as a dud. The moral: when you choose a rebuilder, as with anything, get some background, ask around.
[QUOTE=JackDidley;1575846799]Dont buy the cheap lifetime warranty rebuilt.
How do they say...oh, yeah, now I remember. You get what you pay for. (If you're lucky.) Somehow, the lifetime of the more expensive one seems a little longer.
