First of all, I'm new to this site, and im new to Corvettes in general. I recently purchased a 1984, and the air pump is shot. The pully wobbles and I think the bearings done for because as it idles is screeches like I've heard other vehicles when pulleys seize. So today i removed the air pump and have read that there are delete kits available, my first question is what should i do with it? Use a delete kit or strip the internals of the pump and remount it? Secondly what do i do about all of the secondary components, the hoses and electrical systems attached to the pump. if i use a delete kit will it trigger the check engine light because the pumps obviously no longer functional?... I apologize for the length of the post, but I'm a little stumped and don't want to cause any damage to the car as i just got it and love it! Thanks for any help you can provide!
several venders sell air pump delete kits, depending where you live , a new one might be a good idea, they're not that spendy. Some engines actually run better with them.
I found a remanufactured air pump for $80, they want $150 for the delete kit... If i buy the rebuilt pump can i run it without using the emission control systems and basically use it as an idler pulley?

I believe you can gut the pump and run it like that. But I'd leave the emission stuff in place.
There's really no advantage to deleting the AIR system other than cleaning up the engine bay. There won't be any change in performance. Your cheapest solution is to just replace the pump.
I installed reduction pullies and don't know if my size will fit yours. I measured the size I needed with a string. The guys at Napa Auto let me take some sizes larger and smaller to try out. I kept the one I needed and returned the rest.
Someone that removed the pump with the stock pullies told me he used an 85" Mine was around 82 3/8"
What a bunch of misinformation in the beginning.
84's do NOT require the use of a delete kit. You simply remove the AIR pump and use a shorter belt
I use the 82 in belt but I also use the reduced size crank pulley. My suggestion would be if all the pulleys are the stock size a 84 or 85 in should fit with no problem
OP was asking if the 85-91 smog pump delete would work on an 84. My response was that I didn't think it would since the 84 has a different engine than 85-91.

84 = L83
85-91 = L98
I'll be!...learn something new everyday.
The 84's are a 350 small block.... what engines do the L98's use?
I would have sworn they use a 350 small block as well
