Default Air Filters

I have a 1988 corvette. I have seen many ads for various different types of air filters all claiming to allow the best air flow and thus greatest horsepower. Does anyone have any input into the best air filters or is K and N the best and the rest hype? I'd appreciate any input. Thank you.

An open air filter lid is worth a tenth in the quarter. Done it, had the slips, but that was a long time ago. Yes, I am running a K&N.

That said, I have an SLP Claw in the garage. I have not decided if it is worth installing.

Thanks for your views Rag Top. Any idea as to how much hp gain a tenth translates into?
