I'm in the process of having my rocker panels repainted. They were done once before by the previous owner and he had the entire piece including the lower lip,( where the jacking points are), painted also. After time it started to chip. I believe that this lower lip area was never painted from the factory. It was left a flat black color. If someone could snap a couple of pics showing exactly where the factory paint is supposed to be, it would be much appreciated.

On my '90 & '96, the entire panel is painted including the lower lip.
Thanks. I'm actually searching pics on the forum and it seems like early C4's had the lip in black and later C4's had everything painted. Not sure though. I'll keep searching
1989 - the very bottom edge where the lettering is (^ JACKING LOCATION ^) painted black, not body color.
Bingo. Thats exactly the area Im talking about. My car is yellow and that area is all chipped up exposing black. I dont think its paint though, it looks like its the actual lip of the rocker panel that was manufactured with black plastic.
The rocker panels on early C4s were painted the same color as the body with the exception of the 1" flat strip on the very bottom which was painted dull black (same as under hood black), not flat black, not semi-gloss black, but a dull underhood black. Also, the 5 7mm bolts that were used to attach the panels on the bottom were anadized black (not painted). Here are a couple of photos. If these don't do it for you, I can take some close-ups tomorrow and post them.
While the lower edge appears to be black plastic or ABS, it is not. It is painted. If you ever remove your rocker panels you will see on the reverse side that the plastic is actually a butternut honey color. The rocker panel is painted body color and the 1" flat strip is painted dull black. You can always tell an early C4 that has been repainted when the lower rocker panel flat strip is painted body color.
Thanks for the pics. I see that the lip area is black. What about the underside area, the area where the 5 7mm bolts attach the panels on the bottom? Is that area black or body color? I know, I know, I'm starting to sound like a pain in the ***

Only the flat strip is painted black. The area where the 7mm bolts attach is body color. You can mask the painted area leaving only the flat strip exposed. Use Dupli-color or Eastwood under hood black to paint the black strip. You can paint the 7mm bolts flat black which will pass all but the most discriminating NCRS judge’s inspection.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I actually started scraping the yellow paint off the lip area to expose the flat black. But its time to send them out to have done right. Once again thanks for the replies and the pics
