Who has replaced their rear window weatherstripping? I see it for sale in the CF mall for 99.95. http://store.yahoo.com/corvetteforum/c4rearhatwea.html
Has anyone ordered this piece? How is the fit? What tips or tricks are involved in replacing this piece? TIA.
Just finished replacing the rear weatherstrip on my '94 Coupe. I bought the GM replacement stripping figuring the couple of bucks saved may end up costing in fit - the price was $180 and it went together okay. A bit tough getting it to seat. It seemed like it was to long / large on initial install but by working it into the forward corners it all managed to seal just fine. The real test was getting the rear hatch to close after installation. My old gasket was so worn it didn't offer any interference when the lid was latched and the new gasket makes it close very tightly. I guess the whole job took less than 2 hours and now the read deck is dry after a hard rain. Yippee.javascript: DoInsert(' :seeya ');
Got mine about 2 months ago from http://www.corvetterubber.com. It came with the white grease already in the tracks. Taking off the hardware holding up the rear hatch is the most difficult part of the replacement. Read the directions which come in the kit. Basically they say, start at the lower corners in the front, then over the top, and around the back. Snapped right in. Agree with closing the hatch comment. First thru tenth time you close, you gotta be carefull and slow, but after, should work ok. Think I payed about 124.00 delivered...They got a toll free number and do a bunch of other rubber replacement stuff...fyi...-C4- :flag
JohM - First time I closed the lid I was sure the glass was going to crack. Then the weather took a dip and the temp dropped into the teens. I was concerned enough that I didn't drive the Vette for a couple of days just to make sure that I didn't add any undue stress. After the temp shot up to 40 I've had it open and closed a couple of times but it still feels mighty tight. Just another one of those little pangs we all have to deal with after a repair - eh? I'm heading out into the garage this afternoon to do the fuel filter change. Should be fun taking a gas bath at 40 degrees.
