On a 1987 Corvette the hood will not open because it is stuck on the passenger side, anyone know why or how to fix the problem for my friend? Thanks
My hood acts that way also. It only opens completely when I lift it from the driver side. If once the lever is released and it still will not release, try holding the lever out and opening the hood from the driver side at the same time. Apologies in advance if this doesn't help. Best of luck!
My '89 did this once and it was because the latch release on the drivers side had slipped out ot the slot that anchors it. After buying the hood release tool which I may add still took me about thirty minutes to get it open, I tie wrapped the release cablle in the slot so this would never happen again. If there is a way to open a Vette hood without this tool. I sure would like to know about it. You can make your own. There are plans here on this site somewhere. Takes a lot of patience or a lot of luck to open it quickly. Good luck.
i jsut had this same problem and fixed it. All it is is that the pin with the spring around it under the hood that holds it shut has come loose. One you egt it open take a flathead scredriver and tighten both those putties up. My hood even sits different now and lines up perfectly. Let me know if that works. I had the same exact problem though. You may be able to get the hood open by having one person pull the release latch wheils you pull up on the hood. Hope this helps.
I bouhgt my release tool from Gordon Killebrew at last years Bloomington Gold. I haven't used it yet. The instructions say to practice on a hood that works fine first to get the feel of it. I keep it behind the seat for an emergency.
Mine does this also sometimes. When it does pop the release and go to the passenger side and raise that side about 3-4 inches. Then set it down gently (not allowing it to relock in place). Then go to your drivers side and raise the drivers side. You can now raise the hood. It is an alignment issue with the pin and the receiver as stated before.
Here's a short GM rant. I have a 84 Indy Fiero (origional owner). It has a spare emergency hood release cable. Hell, the engine's not even under the hood! All that's there is the radiator, master cylinder and spare tire. Somehow the Pontiac guys figured out that a spare hood release cable was a good idea on a $15,000 car while the "brainaics" in Bowling Green couldn't do likewise at $40K+! Cire96
P.S. I still love my C4 more. The Fiero is a garage queen for occasional quite (and slow) drives.
Just an idea but couldn't you remove the fender with the louvers in it. There is one bolt on the bottom, three in the inner wheel well and the one in the top corner. Couldn't you get to that one on the top courner by removing the weatherstripping that goes between the hood and fire wall. You should then be able to get to it through the door once opened. With the piece off it would see like you would have enough room to get you hand up there and manually unlatch the release. Its an idea that I will look into if nobody has a clue if it works.
