Ouch! I didn't price it out when I was at AS&M checking out their LT runners. Since their runners are competitively priced I assumed their TB would be too.
I just bought a BBK for my 96. It looks the same.I decided to go with the BBK instead of the AS&M unit, which is a rebuild. Might have been a mistake. I did price the AS&M and it was under $300. w/ exchange.
This is a question along similar lines......does your 52mm BBK look different than your stock TB? I assumed when I got it that it would look the same only bigger, but in actuality it appears that certain intakes etc are cut differently. Is this normal? I can post pics if that would help explain what I mean...
I just got the BBK a few days ago and I was gonna ask the same question mine looks the same with the rough cast surface finish. I can easily smooth it out , I am wondering if the airfoil piece you can spend $40.00 on will help
much and will it seat properly on the throttle body rough cast surface.

I ran a 52MM BBK for a while. The casting was rough. I am not sure smoothing it out will improve anything and it would most likely not be worth it to get an aftermarket air foil. I liked it, but opted for the Holley unit. Much nicer as it is a solid billet aluminum peice whereas the BBK is a cast unit. Both function well though.
I looked at the BBK and have heard lots of complaints about the quality. The ASM 52mm is a stock unit bored out to 52mm. I would say pay the extra and go with the ASM 54mm unit. It is billet and is a very nice piece. Check with Speed Demon Motorsports, I heard they had a good price on them. :seeya
I've got the Holley. It's a very pretty piece, but I've dyno proven it useless on my current setup. Unless you have a set of heads I can tell you that you are wasting your money. I'm part of that club, but I got mine VERY cheap so I'm not upset about it.
Boys, boys, boys... First of all, listen up to what Nathan said. Don't expect ANY improvement with a larger TB unless you've got a good set of heads behind it. It generally won't hurt anything but don't expect the world, either. Its a simple bolt-on mod that may help as you build up the engine further. One caveat... I don't suggest putting a 58mm on a stock displacement motor.
I ran a 52mm Edelbrock/BBK on my GS for a couple years and it worked great. Never had a problem. As I recall the inside of it was fairly smooth but not polished. Don't sweat it, it won't make any difference.
And as far as cost goes, the BBK is outright. I think the others are exchange. My advice is to save your money for a heads and cam package.
:yesnod:
The BBK is slightly rough, I have both the Holley 58mm (daddy likes :yesnod:) and the BBK 58mm, the Holley is what I'm using and I have no complaints, looks are great. I wouldn't expect you to gain much by smoothing but what the hey, go for it.
